John Dewey once quoted, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”
In the school; socialization takes place for the first time. That is, the child starts learning to live with others, share their sorrows and happiness; take the qualities of cooperation, tolerance, love, friendship and sympathy. It comprises of students from different backgrounds. As people of different religion, caste, creed or economic status live in a society in harmony, likewise, students in a school also come from a wide cross-section of the society.
Educational Institutes play an important role in a democratic social set up. Pupils of today are the citizens of tomorrow. It is said that in a societal system schools are the backbone of the community. We can say school is a mini society.
In other words education and its institutions such as the school, university, classrooms and curriculums are all social facts. They exist in society and are a reflection of society. Because they are social facts they cannot be the cause for society; rather it is the reverse that is true.
